Saturday TV Special: Homeland

By s. Saturday, January 7, 2012 ,
Plot: Centers on Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq and being held prisoner and tortured, and Carrie Mathison, a driven and hardworking (and possibly unstable) CIA officer who suspects he might be plotting an attack on America and has turned sides and joined the enemy.
Structure: The episodes pick up where the previous one left off, there is one intrigue which has many smaller plots connected to it, almost like a spider web.
Verdict: The show has a very strong "24" vibe to it, minus the annoying clock. The whole plot is very interesting and the individual scenes - like Carrie following Nicholas or the scene where loud music is played in order to break the person that can have valuable information - are amazing.
What makes it so great? Fascinating main character played by Claire Danes who delivers astounding performance, especially near the end of the season. The plot is interesting and the show is simply addictive - especially because Carrie is so unpredictable - few times you think "there is no way she will..." and then she does it.
Whom you may recognize: Claire Danes, who achieved fame because of her movie career but continues to deliver her best work in TV and Damien Levis, who played the main character in "Band of Brothers".
Who's behind it? The creators and writers of "24", "The X Files" and "Dexter".
Who will like it? Fans of political thrillers, conspiracy theories, "24" and films like "Rendition" and "Unthinkable".
When and where? Season 1 has just ended on Showtime, season 2 is rumoured to start this year.

  1. Homeland is awesome. Especially for all the twists and turns I never imagined. Claire Danes and Damien Lewis are definitely the linchpins of the show. However, I also love Morgan Saylor(Dana) and Mandy Patinkin(Saul).
